Monmouth Family Syndicate Scoops £61.1 Million EuroMillions Prize

A lucky family syndicate have come forward to claim a EuroMillions jackpot of £61.1 million. The Davies family from Monmouth, consisting of Sonia Davies and her partner Keith Reynolds, as well as her daughters Stephanie Davies and Courtney Davies and Stephanie's partner Steve Powell, collected the eight-figure sum after successfully matching all five main numbers and both Lucky Stars from the draw on Friday 29th July and now insist that they are “living the dream.”

Sonia Davies believed that luck was certainly on her side after receiving the all-clear following life-saving surgery in the US to remove a tumour from her parathyroid gland in her neck. The 53-year-old phoned her daughter Stephanie to deliver the good news before having to “bully” her into purchasing a ticket for the draw. “[Keith] was convinced that we were the luckiest people on the planet and definitely on a winning streak after the success of my op,” the mum-of-three claimed, speaking at a National Lottery news conference. "They managed to give me the all-clear straight after the operation, so as you would imagine we were on cloud nine. Something told us we needed to get a ticket - and the rest is history."

It was Sonia’s daughters who broke the news, with Stephanie phoning her mother "sobbing down the phone" with the "odd muffled word". It wasn’t until Stephanie’s partner Steve bellowed “we've won £61m" that the penny finally dropped. The young couple found themselves unable to sleep after discovering their good fortune, and resorted to taking pictures with the lucky slip in case anything happened to it: "We checked the ticket 10 times and ran around the house and locked all the doors and windows," explained the 23-year-old. "In a crazy moment we took a few selfies with the ticket."

The family, who claim to have experienced a “rollercoaster of a week”, now plan to share some of their epic windfall with friends and family. Ms Davies and her partner Keith Reynolds plan to buy a new car port, while Stephanie and Steve hope to replace their bathroom in the house that they recently acquired. The youngest member of the syndicate, 19-year-old Courtney, has set her sights on upgrading her VW Fox to a model with automatic windows. The quintet’s win is the fourth EuroMillions jackpot to be won by a ticket from the UK this year, following wins of £24.7 million and £24.6 million in February and a colossal £51.8 million in April. The other three jackpots were claimed anonymously.

This Friday’s EuroMillions jackpot is estimated to be worth a very handsome £20 million. To be in with a chance of scooping this massive sum like this family syndicate, tickets can be purchased online or from any authorised retailer in participating countries. Best of luck!
