EuroMillions and Lotto Plus 2 Wins Result in Double Delight for Irish Lottery Lovers

There was double delight for Irish lottery lovers over the weekend as two players from the Emerald Isle won prizes totalling more than €500,000. The celebrations began on Friday night in the EuroMillions draw, before extending into Saturday evening as another ticket holder landed the Lotto Plus 2 jackpot.

It was certainly a weekend to remember for one EuroMillions fan from Cork who pocketed a prize worth €257,084. Although there was no winner of the €25 million jackpot, the Irish player was one of four participants to match the numbers 29, 30, 36, 40, 41 and one of the two Lucky Stars (2 and 9). The lucky player purchased their entry from an Eason’s store in the Wilton Shopping Centre and became the recipient of Ireland’s biggest EuroMillions prize since a ticket holder collected a €369,210 sum in the draw on Tuesday 11th July.

The joy continued into Saturday as an Irish Lotto player enjoyed supplementary success in the Lotto Plus 2 draw. The prosperous punter, believed to be from the Monaghan area, correctly matched the numbers 02, 09, 15, 25, 32, 45 to land €250,000. The winning ticket was purchased from an XL Store on Dundalk Road in Carrickmacross.

The news was greeted warmly by the store’s owner, Shane Cassidy, who told reporters:  “It’s a fantastic win for the town and it’ll give the community here a great boost.” Cassidy did his best to avoid speculation on whether the profitable playslip was purchased by a resident from the area, but did seem to suggest that he would like to see the money remain close by: “The majority of our customers are local so I’d love to see one of them picking up this life changing prize.”

However, the business owner did confirm that he would be more than happy if the victor was from out of town: “We had a fair bit of passing trade with the Monaghan football match in Croke Park yesterday so whoever the winner is, we wish them the very best of luck with their prize.”

This weekend may have been a tremendous success for Irish lottery fans, but there is no reason why the midweek draws can’t be even better, especially with a EuroMillion jackpot of €36 million up for grabs, along with an Irish Lotto top prize of €6.5 million. If you fancy laying claim to either of these fabulous sums, you can pick your numbers online or play through any authorised retailer across Ireland. Good luck!
