Edmonton Mother Waited Six Months Before Claiming Lotto 6/49 Prize

For many lottery winners, the excitement of landing a huge prize would fill them with so much joy that they would simply have to share the news with every man, woman and child in sight, but that’s not how one lucky Lotto 6/49 ticket holder chose to do things.

Ida Mataya, a resident of Edmonton, was over the moon when she landed herself a $1 million prize in Lotto 6/49’s Guaranteed Prize Draw on Wednesday 24th August, but she remained silent for a whole six months. Speaking to lottery officials, Ida said: “I was really happy, but I didn’t want to draw too much attention to myself because I didn’t know what I was going to do with it.”

Having checked her ticket the day after the draw, the mother-of-two was understandably stunned by her good fortune and felt it necessary to talk the win over with her sons. “I wanted to take some time to make plans,” she explained. Clearly not one to be rushed, Ida did just that, making sure all bases were covered before revealing herself to reporters at lottery HQ.

Having had over half a year to mull over her win, Ida, who purchased her Lotto 6/49 entry from the Southgate Lottery store in the Southgate Shopping Centre, believes she finally has everything mapped out financially. The Edmontonian has already started looking for a new home, as well as organising a well-deserved holiday for her family. Not one to overlook those closest to her, Ida also plans on helping her nieces with their education.

If you would like to follow in Ida’s footsteps and win your own Lotto 6/49 prize, tickets are available to purchase online or from any authorised retailer throughout Canada. Good luck!
