EuroMillions Record Equalled as Five Players Split Jackpot

A big month for EuroMillions kicked off with a record being matched on Friday 2nd September as five players split a jackpot of £32.8 million (€39.2 million). It is only the third time in the history of the game that so many ticket holders have landed a share of the top prize, though on both previous occasions the jackpot was smaller.

The numbers drawn on Friday were 8, 16, 32, 40 and 50 with Lucky Stars 2 and 11. The five lucky winners, three from the UK and one each from Portugal and Switzerland, received £6.5 million (€7.8 million) each. There were also multiple players in the next three winning tiers, picking up four, five and six-figure sums, perhaps partly because four of the five main numbers were multiples of eight.

Any combination of EuroMillions numbers is just as likely to be drawn as another, but the number of winners from last week suggests that it might be a good idea to select a random line rather than one with a recognisable pattern. If you pick a line which features some sort of sequence, such as multiples of a certain number, then the evidence from Friday’s draw suggests you are more likely to have to share it with other ticket holders and could end up with a smaller prize if your numbers are drawn. By having a random line, it is more likely that you wouldn’t have to split the top prize with as many other participants.

Friday’s draw was a spectacular start to a momentous month for EuroMillions. The game will be changing ahead of the draw on Tuesday 27th September, with jackpots set to rise, Mega Week replacing Mega Friday in the UK and a number of other features being introduced.

There will also be two special draws on Friday 9th September and Tuesday 13th September, with 10 extra UK millionaires set to be created to coincide with the start of the Paralympic Games. Each winner will also get the chance to jet off to Rio de Janeiro for a once-in-a-lifetime holiday.

The EuroMillions jackpot will stand at £12 million (€15 million) for tonight’s draw if you fancy becoming the game’s latest big winner and keeping the feel-good factor from Friday going strong. Why not purchase tickets online or visit an authorised retailer in any of the participating countries to see what you could win? Good luck!
