South Africa Powerball Changes Drive Up Jackpot

The South Africa Powerball jackpot has soared to a stupendous R62 million ahead of tonight’s draw as players feel the benefit of recent changes to the game. There is also a top prize of R14 million in the new Powerball Plus game, giving ticket holders an extra opportunity to pick up great cash rewards.

A number of alterations were made to South Africa Powerball ahead of the draw on Tuesday 1st December. These included the addition of a new prize tier for matching just the Powerball, bringing the overall odds of winning a prize down from around 1 in 34 to 1 in 18. Participants in the bottom two tiers also now win improved fixed prizes, while the cost of tickets has gone up from R3.50 to R5 per line.

The first Powerball draw after the relaunch raised the jackpot to a hefty R50 million, and that has now grown considerably following two more rollovers. Powerball Plus, which also has the capacity to roll over and costs an extra 2.50 per ticket, has not yet seen anyone match all five main numbers plus the Powerball.

The record Powerball jackpot stands at R102 million, which was pocketed by a ticket holder from the Free State province in June 2011. The revamped game is promising bigger top prizes and more regular wins, and it might not be long before the previous high mark is eclipsed.

Players everywhere are sure to be dreaming of winning this evening’s jackpot in either Powerball or Powerball Plus, with tickets available from authorised retailers across South Africa or online.
