Powerball Jackpot Surpasses $1 Billion for Wednesday’s Draw

The Powerball jackpot has hit an incredible $1.4 billion for the draw on Wednesday 13th January after no player could match the entire winning line drawn last Saturday night. The biggest lottery jackpot in history could now stand to make one player - or several players - rich beyond their wildest dreams.

Saturday’s winning Powerball numbers were 16, 19, 32, 34 and 57 with Powerball 13 and Power Play 3. The jackpot might have escaped the grasp of players, but there were 25 tickets from across the country that matched five main numbers to win $1 million each. Three tickets from Texas and Connecticut matched five main numbers and the Power Play number to win $2 million each.

Ticket sales have pushed the estimation of the Powerball jackpot to truly astronomical levels, with Saturday’s top prize originally estimated at $700 million. As more entries were submitted, lottery officials bumped the jackpot to $800 million, then $900 million on the morning before the draw. As excitement over the prospect of a ten-figure lottery prize spreads this week, the calculated value of the prize to be offered on Wednesday could easily exceed $1.5 billion.

The executive director of the Texas Lottery, Gary Grief, spoke to NBC News about Saturday’s rollover. “That just shows the total randomness of Powerball. At our peak last night, we were selling more than $1.2 million in Powerball tickets every minute.”

The estimated cash value for Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is $868 million, easily destroying lottery jackpot records set by Mega Millions, Powerball and a host of other world lottery games. You can buy entries online from wherever you are in the world or visit an authorised retailer to pick up Powerball tickets in any of the 44 states and three jurisdictions that participate in the game. Good luck and have fun!
