Draperstown Duo Win Second Big Lottery Prize

A husband and wife from Northern Ireland are celebrating a second huge lottery win after pocketing £1 million in the UK Millionaire Maker. Catherine and Ciaran Kidd had previously scooped £20,000 in the Lotto Millionaire Raffle a couple of years ago, and are now looking forward to the future after bagging a seven-figure sum on the EuroMillions supplementary game.

Draperstown Duo Win Second Big Lottery Prize

Priceless

Presented with their giant cheque this week, the lucky couple spoke about the ‘big difference’ the previous win had made to their lives, and revealed the latest windfall would be even more gratefully received. “Obviously there are lots of things we might consider buying, like a new car or a nice family holiday, but really the freedom to spend more quality time together as a family is priceless and we are so lucky and so grateful.”

Catherine and Ciaran have already done most of their Christmas shopping, but say there will be ‘something extra special’ in their four children’s stockings this year. Catherine, who is originally from Rochdale in England, says they will now be able to regularly go back and visit her family without having to worry about the cost of flights.

No Wind-ups

Now living in Draperstown, Co Londonderry, Catherine could not believe at first that she had banked £1 million, having received an email notification at work about a EuroMillions win. She had not been able to check her lottery account at work, so phoned Ciaran to check at home.

She recalled: “After a few minutes, he called me back and said I must have given him the wrong details as the system was showing that we’d won a million pounds on the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker. He thought that I was winding him up, and I thought that he was winding me up, but then he sent a screenshot to my phone and it all went a bit crazy after that.”

Ciaran added: “Nobody ever thinks this will happen to them, but we are living proof that it really can happen to anyone.”

Multiple Winners

The Kidds are not the first players to win the lottery multiple times. David and Kathleen Long, from Scunthorpe, defied odds of more than 283 billion to one to snap up a £1 million Millionaire Maker prize for a second time in April 2015. Just this week, a man from Perth in Australia celebrated his sixth Division One prize in the space of five years, and revealed that the secret of his success was playing in a syndicate.

It does not matter how many times you have played the lottery before, or even how many times you have won before. You still have a chance of winning if you take part, and there is a fantastic jackpot of £45 million (€50 million) up for grabs in EuroMillions tonight. Tickets can be bought from authorised retailers, or you can choose numbers online. Good luck!
