World Lottery News for 2nd June 2008

World Lottery NewsA couple who won £5 million on the National Lottery have sadly separated and both have admitted that they were happy when they had no money. Their lottery win came when their daughter was just five months old and you would have thought it was the answer to all their prayers. Their big win meant they could leave their modest £55,000 two bedroom house and move into a detached house boasting a swimming pool and costing £400,000.

Claire Owen, 24, was an office worker and Craig Pope, 23, a computer software tester split last Christmas when Craig set up home with his new partner Alice some 100 miles away whilst Clair has remained in the family home with her daughter and older brother.

It really does show that money cannot buy you happiness.

You would think a £1.3 million lottery win would mean never having to work again but for Luke Pittard, 25, it wasn’t the case. Staying at home all day soon became tedious for this young man who has been nicknamed the McMillionaire and he returned to his £5.85 an hour job as a crew member for McDonalds.

Although Luke did stop work for a while after his win he says that he could not settle in the life of luxury and yearned to be back at work with his friends. He is however planning a new career and wants to train as PE teacher or football coach.

As yet there haven’t been many of the usual splurges you would see by many lottery winners, the main being the flash cars in the garage but this is only because neither Luke or his wife have passed their driving test yet. They did however spend £30,000 on their wedding and ensure their parents are financially secure. The biggest purchase to date was their £230,000 house which previously they had been unable to afford and meant that they couldn’t afford to live together.
