The state Virginia Lottery celebrates its 20th anniversary this month and they are holding some special events to celebrate. The Virginia Lottery began on September 20th 1988 and has plenty to celebrate when you consider how far it has come since its launch.
When the first tickets were sold for the Virginia lottery there was just one game available. A scratch card called the Match 3 which cost $1 and had a jackpot of $5,000. Now of course $5,000 is nothing and in keeping with the amount of choice with other world Lotteries and inflation you can now win $1 million on the many scratch cards available plus of course the computerised draw which generates jackpots that have been known to climb to over $100 million.
As Virginia Lottery celebrates its 20th Anniversary this month they are holding a new raffle plus lots of other exciting events and opportunities to share your favourite memories of the games. Join in on the 20th Birthday raffle which will be running until September 19th, tickets are $5 each and if you are the lucky winner you will receive $1 million paid in 20 yearly instalments. Runners up prizes are $20,000, $2,000 and $20. Tickets are unlimited so you can enter as many times as you like, chances of winning will of course depend on the amount of tickets sold.
Virginia Lotteries anniversary shows a perfect example of how technology has changed gaming, from a single scratch card to a computerised lottery game, reaching far more people and selling far more tickets than ever before. You don’t even need to queue up to buy your tickets, use one of the many self service lottery machines or play online by subscription.
Well from us it’s Happy Birthday to the Virginia Lottery and may the next 20 years see many more millionaires.
