UK National Lottery goes back to basics

UK National LotteryIn an announcement from Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt this week, the UK National Lottery goes back to basics, a move which should mean that many of the original ‘good causes’ are about to be pushed back into the limelight. Like many world lottery draws, the UK National Lottery gives out millions each year in lottery grants and now, thanks to government intervention, that cash is to go where it was always intended.

A reform to the way the UK National Lottery is administered, will mean that the UK National Lottery goes back to basics, as money that has ended up elsewhere in recent years goes back into the sports, heritage and arts funds it was intended for. The announcement by Jeremy Hunt is reckoned to be worth around £150 million a year, adding to the £25 billion already paid out in lottery good causes since the UK National Lottery launched.

It is thought that the changes mean, that from 2012, an extra £50 million a year will go to each of the National Lottery good causes. That’s an extra £50 for the arts, sport and heritage, totalling £150 million.

This extra money for good causes will be found by changing the way the UK National Lottery is run and adding money currently diverted by the National Lottery for the Olympic fund commitment.

In other lottery news, the UK winner of the Euromillions lottery is still yet to come forward and claim the £113 million prize. It has been rumoured today that the lottery ticket was bought in the Coventry area of the UK but lottery officials have not yet confirmed this.

It's also a UK National Lottery rollover on Wednesday night, don't forget your lottery tickets!
