Last week we brought you news of a record Australian Lottery Jackpot of $90 million, the highest ever seen for the lottery. Now we have news of the winners and as two winners share the record Oz Lotto jackpot, it ended up being much higher than originally anticipated as lottery fever gripped Australia’s residents causing a rush of ticket sales.
In the end it was one couple from Queensland and a man from South Australia who won the jackpot which ended up at A$106 million! It was the highest jackpot ever seen in the Australian Lottery making both winners record breakers. The previous record was A$58.7 million and this jackpot eclipsed that by millions.
Both winning ticket holders have asked to remain anonymous and each one will take home around A$53 million each after matching all the winning numbers in the draw.
It’s been ten whole weeks since the Australia Lottery found a winner and the jackpot went far past the A$90 million expected. Storeholders and lottery retailers saw unprecedented ticket sales with non-stop queues in kiosks across the country.
Unlike many American Lotteries, Australian Lottery winners can take their amount as a tax-free lump sum and there’s no doubt that these two winners won’t be able to wait to pick up their winning lottery cheques.
