Two separate tickets won the second biggest ever prize given away in Canada’s Lotto 6/49 yesterday 6th August 2008. One ticket from Quebec and one sold in Northern Ontario will split the $45.1 million jackpot meaning two winners shared the $45m Lotto 6/49, with each winning ticket worth a massive $22,572,856 quoted by the provincial gambling agency, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp on Thursday.
Lottery 6/49 is Canada’s biggest lottery. There are 6 balls drawn from 49 every Wednesday and Saturday and to win the jackpot you must match each of the 6 balls, there are several ways to win Lotto6/49, from matching all six, five and the bonus number right down to matching 2 of the 6 plus the bonus ball. The Lotto 6/49 is not unlike our own National Lottery in its layout and ticket design.
The biggest every prize won on Canada’s Lotto 6/49 was $54.3 million, won in October 2005 by a single winning ticket belonging to a syndicate of oil and Gas workers in Camrose, Alberta. But this time two winners share the Lotto 6/49 Prize the second biggest in the Canada’s history.
The winning numbers pulled Wednesday night are 10, 18, 22, 26, 34, 38 with 39 as the bonus ball. There were 17 winners who matched 5 and the bonus ball, each winning $220,055 each with seven of those purchased in Ontario too, making this a very lucky area for Lotto 6/49 players.
These big draws occur when the Lotto 6/49 rolls over due to not being won on previous draws, no winner on one draw making the jackpot increase on the following one. Add to that the people who buy extra tickets on big draws plus the people who don’t usually partake but are tempted by the rollover jackpots and you can see how the money starts to grow and grow and these huge jackpots come about.
However they come about and how many times they rollover one thing you can be sure of, and that’s two very happy people in Canada right now deciding how best to spend $45 million!
