A Tesco store in County Meath in Ireland has pledged €500,000 to charity after Tesco, accidentally wins the Euromillions Lottery. A lottery ticket, handed back by a customer, struck lucky in Friday’s Euromillions Lottery draw, netting the company €500,000, quite by accident. Now officials are trying to work out just went wrong and how it ended up with the winning ticket, and have pledged the win to charity if it turns out they are the true winners.
It seems that last Friday, a customer entered the Tesco store in County Meath, Ireland and asked for a €4 Euromillions ticket, instead the gentleman was handed the €9 ticket, including the Irish Euromillions ‘Plus’ draw. The lottery player, not getting what he asked for, handed the Euromillions Lottery ticket back to the cashier, who then locked it in the till.
That’s probably the very last anyone would have heard about the cashier error, had the ticket not been lucky. However, the ticket was a winner in the Euromillions ‘Plus’, Irish draw, run alongside the Euromillions Lottery for Irish players, and now Tesco are €500,000 richer.
It’s one of the oddest lottery stories ever heard, but once verification has taken place, Tesco have pledged the entire prize to charity. We wonder if there’s an Irish Lottery player out there somewhere who remembers the cashier mistake last Friday? He’ll be kicking himself now no doubt after missing out on this €500,000 prize! It would seem that sometimes fate deals us the strangest hands, and we have to decide whether to take it or not.
