Recently we brought you news of how National Lottery funding was ensuring that veterans made it to the D-Day commemorations in Normandy but now it seems in doubt that they will even get there as huge problems and swine flu affects the D-Day lotto tour.
There was some dispute about who was going to fund the trip after lottery officials originally decided that they couldn’t fund the trip. However after a change of heart the National Lottery provided a lottery grant to ensure the veterans got to visit Normandy one last time.

However the tour company still hasn’t got the veterans out there after the firm swapped the bus it was using at the last minute because of fears that the driver may have swine flu. The replacement bus it booked then broke down meaning the tour company is still attempting to make arrangements to get the veterans from Scotland to France this weekend.
The firm have assured the National Lottery and the veterans that the problems are genuine and if they cannot take the veterans to Normandy by Saturday for the 65th anniversary commemorations then it would attempt to take them later in the week to visit other places they had been to following the invasion.
It’ll be a sad day for the veterans if they can’t make the celebrations especially after the problems originally caused with lottery funding. What should have been a fairly simple trip for these aging soldiers has turned into a big fracas with problems from beginning to end.
