A few days ago we brought you news of how a town official had bet his wages on the record SuperEnalotto draw but despite Italy going lottery crazy the Italian SuperEnalotto rolls over again. That means tonight’s lottery jackpot is worth a staggering €119 million and it’s turning the country into a mad house as players rush to buy tickets for the draw.
The SuperEnalotto jackpot has not been won since January and has been climbing steadily ever since, wagers on the lottery has tripled over the last month as lottery fever grips the country. The last record jackpot set in October last year was £88 million but this jackpot eclipses this by miles.
With poverty high, especially during the economic crisis many Italians have given up playing the lottery, but even those players are buying tickets for this record draw is it seems that the lure of such a huge amount of cash is too big to resist.
Earlier in the week we brought you news of how the town officials in the small Sicilian town of Ficcara had diverted money from council salaries to buy tickets for the record lottery draw and it seems they are not the only ones. The Mayor in Varallo a small town in Piedmont has convinced his five person cabinet to buy a €100 ticket and will continue to play until the winning numbers were drawn, he dreams of being able to abolish taxes in the town, pay off some mortgages and bring a little happiness to their constituents.
It seems the fever will continue until the lottery is won and you can join in the excitement by clicking the banner above and buying tickets for the draw from anywhere in the world.
