Super Lottery

Global Lottery Over the past year ticket sales for the National Lottery have dropped by £105 million to just £2.75 billion which are the lowest sale figures since the National Lottery launched back in 1994. Camelot is currently in talks with 48 other countries world wide about a new Super Lottery that will see a global lottery draw. Two countries involved in the talks include Australia and America.

Plans for the Super Lottery include a monthly draw that could see 100 millionaires being made each month as well as a yearly draw which will be a super prize – plans could see the yearly draw taking place in the New Year.

Although the National Lottery Lotto sales have dropped the EuroMillions has seen UK sales rise by 10%; the EuroMillions game is played by nine countries. This would indicate that playing for bigger prizes holds a bigger draw for UK players.

On reading news of the Super Lottery there was a quote from a Professor of Economics at the Centre for the Study of Gambling who said “When advertising the National Lottery you are selling a dream, offer a bigger dream in the way of Super Lottery and people will switch to it.” This is exactly what has happened with the rise in sales of EuroMillions tickets but the drop in National Lottery sales.

A Camelot spokesman went on to say that plans to move ahead with the Super Lottery international draw are going well but there are no plans to drop the Lotto game from the National Lottery.

Although the Lotto tickets sales dropped last year over the last five years there has been a steady growth of 8.5% which in real money equates to £391.8 million.
