Spanish Ticket Holder Wins €190 Million EuroMillions Jackpot

A EuroMillions ticket holder from Spain is €190 million richer after winning the game’s top prize in Friday’s draw. The lucky player, who purchased their ticket in Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria, correctly matched the numbers 1, 9, 15, 19, 25 and the Lucky Stars 1 and 7 to land the joint largest jackpot in the pan-European lottery’s 13 year history.

Spanish Ticket Holder Wins €190 Million EuroMillions Jackpot

Joy in Las Palmas

Initial reports suggest that the winning ticket was validated at a shop in the of El Mirador Shopping Centre on the sun-kissed Spanish island. The identity of the winner remains a mystery, with no clue as to whether the victor is a local resident or a tourist playing whist on holiday in the region. However, what is clear is that the owner of the playslip has written their name into EuroMillions folklore.

Friday night’s draw proved particularly prosperous for players in Las Palmas, as another ticket holder from the city correctly matched the El Million code RRH37615 to end the night €1 million better off. This win rounded off quite an evening for participants in the island’s capital.

UK Players Win Big

Despite missing out on the jackpot by just one number, the evening saw 16 players in the Match 5+1 prize tier each collect a reward worth €1.2 million (£900,571). The winning group included four UK ticket holders, each of whom stand to receive one of the largest second tier prizes in EuroMillions history.

Andy Carter, the National Lottery’s Senior Winners’ Advisor, who had been busy promoting the colossal EuroMillions jackpot in the lead up to Friday’s draw, was on hand to issue a rallying call for all of the winners to come forward. “We have the champagne on ice ready to celebrate,” the ever-cheerful Carter exclaimed.

As the winner of Friday night’s jackpot purchased their entry in Spain, there will have been a huge sigh of relief emanating from the home of Chris and Colin Weir. The couple, who won £161.6 million in July 2011, remain the winners of the largest sterling EuroMillions prize in UK history, a record that the Ayrshire couple would have been stripped of had a Brit landed the sizeable sum on offer.
