Recently a R100 million jackpot went up for grabs in South Africa, and naturally lottery fever swept the country with terminals swamped. However in the end, the South African Lottery winner almost tossed the lottery ticket after thinking it was not a winner. The jackpot was a record for South Africa, and equates to around £9.5 million, huge in the country and just one winner scooped the lot, but almost missed out!
The South African Lottery rollover was created after the jackpot rolled over 24 times. It’s the biggest jackpot ever seen for the lottery and it’s meant a rush on lottery tickets across the country.

The winner purchased the R10.5 quick pick ticket for the draw, and gave himself little chance of a win. After the draw, he handed the lottery ticket to the cashier in the store where he purchased the ticket, but the machine said it was not a winner. The cashier then scanned the ticket again, and the winner told her to throw the South African Lottery ticket in the bin.
However, the cashier scanned the ticket one more time, and was given a message that the gentleman needed to contact lottery offices. Upon contacting the South African Lottery, realised he was indeed the R100 million winner.
The winner intends on paying off some debts now and using the cash to give himself a better life. It is indeed a life-changing amount of cash and what’s more, the player isn’t even a regular lottery player, saying he only plays for the big jackpots.
