Sicily Bets Wages on SuperEnalotto

SuperEnalotto Italy’s SuperEnalotto has not been won for weeks and the jackpot has climbed to a staggering €116 million, that’s £98 million. Now a Sicilian mayor has come up with an interesting plan to resolve his town’s cash-flow problems as Sicily bets wages on the SuperEnalotto.

Ficarra Mayor, Basilio Ridolfo and his collegues have used €115 from their pai packets to buy tickets for the unprecedented SuperEnalotto jackpot saying that the chances of winning tonight’s draw were highest than the chance of receiving funds pledged by the state. He hopes that a little luck will boost the town’s chances of getting all six numbers correct in the record breaking draw.

The town officials have chosen numbers connected with the town’s patron saint, the Virgin Mary of the Assumption and Mr Ridolfo hopes that with her blessing they will hit the jackpot. Although we’re not sure what she would make of the town’s officials betting their wages on the SuperEnalotto.

The lottery is renowned to be one of the hardest in the world to win, making it very long odds. If the town does strike lucky in tonight’s lottery draw then Mr Ridolfo says that half the winnings will be spent on municipal projects will the rest will be divided between the town’s 2,000 residents.

The previous record jackpot for the SuperEnalotto was £85 million and that was won in October 2008 by another Sicilian town, Catania so it seems that Sicily is very lucky for lottery wins and with no ticket holders winning the jackpot for several months it seems a good time to have a go.
