Sales Down on Irish Lottery
31st May 2010 11:17 AM
According to reports in the Irish press today, sales are down on Irish Lottery. It’s a shock fall in prize money and profits from €840.1 million in 2008, down to €815.1 million in 2009. That’s an 11.4% drop in the sale of Irish Lottery tickets and is making Irish Lottery officials scratch their heads. You may think that big Euromillions Lottery jackpots are behind the fall in sales but even Euromillions revenue in Ireland is down by €2 million.
It’s an unusual trend, as usually during a recession the sale of lottery tickets rises but it seems that Irish Lottery players are being canny as lottery sales drop right across the board. Scratchcard revenue for Irish Lottery games is also down by €7 million, according to figures just released.

The fall in profits on the Irish Lottery is so high that Lottery Chief Executive Dermot Griffin has even waived his performance bonus on his annual salary and now lottery officials are looking at new games and a push on online products to get lottery sales back up to what they were.
The weekend Irish Lottery jackpot wasn’t won and that means a rollover for Wednesday evening. Lottery rollovers are always a great way of getting players buying lottery tickets as the lure of the big jackpots gets World Lottery syndicates interested and that increases ticket sales greatly.
