We’ve been talking about it for weeks now as it’s grown and grown an unhealthy lottery fever has been brewing across Italy, but no more as last night it was finally hit and it look not only to be a record Superenalotto win but possibly even a world record lottery win.
The Superenalotto has been growing steadily with no main winners since April 2008. With rollover after rollover it has caused a huge amount of Lottery fever right across Italy over the past few weeks. Rollovers are common in the Superenalotto as to win you must match six numbers from a total of ninety available making the lottery much harder to win than other lotteries around the world.
It’s expected that the winner will remain anonymous, details have already been released that the winner comes from a mafia stronghold and there is concern that with the country’s strong mafia connections that a winner of such magnitude would be in danger if their name was released.

The worlds’ biggest lottery win was scooped on 31st May 2005 when Dolores McNamara from Ireland won a nine times rolled over jackpot that equated to £77 million on the Euromillions Lottery, this Superenalotto win is said to be a shade more than that win at approx £78 million.
It’s a staggering amount of money and is certainly a life changing amount, whether a win of that magnitude is a good thing is an issue hotly debated. A consumer group in Italy had put in a court request to seize the cash stating that the jackpot was too much money to be won by a single person.
