Record sales for El Gordo Lottery

It’s the annual Spanish El Gordo Lottery draw today and record sales for the El Gordo Lottery have been reported, despite many facing a far more austere Christmas than usual. The economic downturn may have bitten, but with lottery sales up it shows that many people are pinning their hopes on luck to get them out of the financial mess. This trend ties in with trends around the lottery world where ticket sales are high, despite sales in other areas being well below average.
Spaniards have been queuing at El Gordo government lottery kiosks around Spain for days to buy lottery tickets for the yearly draw, which takes place today. Many lottery players interviewed said that while hopes of winning remained high, in the current economic climate the dreams had certainly changed with many players looking for a win to keep their heads above water, rather than the usual dreams of cars and second homes.
Players are spending as much as €100 for tickets for what is the richest lottery draw in the world, the El Gordo Lottery giving away over €2 billion in prizes in the yearly draw.
For players with less cash, they’ll just club together, as is traditional in Spain with whole communities clubbing together to buy lottery tickets for the massive El Gordo Lottery draw.
The draw is open to world lottery players too, with holidaymakers traditionally bringing home lottery tickets each year. Now of course most players buy lottery tickets online for the draw and while you may have missed out on your chance this year, there is the Sorteo Del Nino on January 6th to buy Lottery tickets for.
