lotto 649A syndicate of four Ottawa residents are Ontario’s newest multi-millionaires after sharing the largest lottery win in the areas history. As the record Canada 6/49 winners collected their cheque in Toronto on Thursday they said they couldn’t believe their good fortune.

All employees at Nav Canada the winners were awarded their $40.4 million cheque from last Saturdays Canada 6/49 lotto draw. By midweek the winners had still not come forward prompting a reminder from the Ontario Lottery Corporation to put out a call for the winner to come forward.

Stan Cowan, the ticket holder then took his ticket to the retail outlet where it was purchased and discovered it was the winning ticket for the third biggest win in the lotteries history and the biggest ever win for the province on Ontario. Mr Cowan could hardly believe it and then had the job of convincing the other syndicate members, Mark Waters, Nancy Nicholson and Susan Hellyer of the win.

The winners have worked at Nav Canada for many years and they’re not the first lucky winners from the government organisation. In August of this year a group of eighteen employees from Nav Canada shared a win of just over $100,000 making it a very lucky place to work indeed.

The syndicate have also joined a growing list of winners from the Capital. This July a barber and one of his clients split a $32 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot and in the same month there was a $7 million winner from the City.

Lotto 6/49 draws are held every Wednesday and Saturday evening, the next draw will be on Saturday 8th November 2008 and the jackpot is estimated to be $9 million.
