Problems Claiming Scratchcard win
27th June 2009 1:16 PM
Many of us buy scratchcards and hope as we scratch off the little silver panel that we will become a big jackpot winner and with prizes on scratchcards growing all the time it’s never been a more appealing thought. But as one gentleman found, even if you win, problems claiming scratchcard wins could mean that you’re left with a bit of a dilemma.
William Hamilton is a convicted robber, he was released from prison just one year ago and has been trying to rebuild his life since. Recently Mr Hamilton bought a £2 UK National Lottery scratchcard and what better way to rebuild his life than with a £100,000 top prize.

He was in shock when he won and it would certainly help him get his life back on track but problems claiming the scratchcard win have taken the edge of the celebrations a little.
That’s because officials from the UK National Lottery need identification before they can hand over that sort of cash and unfortunately Mr Hamilton has none, not a driving license, or a passport or even a bank account.
And now Mr Hamilton has to wait for his winnings until the UK National Lottery can sort these problems out. Later in the week lottery officials did offer Mr Hamilton a ray of hope, in the form of a £100,000 cheque, however Mr Hamilton still doesn’t have a bank account so the dilemma really isn’t getting any easier.
