Not only have they managed to take home the largest Powerball jackpot this year, but also won the largest jackpot since April 2010.
Winning $245 million playing the Powerball lottery doesn’t happen every day so obviously the news of this win will take time to settle in. Powerball jackpot winners in this multi-state lottery have the option to collect their winnings in one of two ways and it will be interesting to see which one of the two this winning ticket holder will opt to do. They could take the jackpot in 30 annual installments or they could receive their winnings in a cash lump sum payout which comes out approximately at $146 million.
In addition to the Powerball jackpot being won last night, there were 19 players who matched five numbers correctly to win $200,000 and one other player who matched five numbers with the Power Play to increase their winnings to an impressive $1 million. In addition to that 96 players matched four numbers to win $10,000, and another 10 players matched 4 plus the Power Play to take home $40,000. In total last night there were a staggering 2,277,427 players that each won a prize across all nine of the Powerball prize tiers.
This now means that the jackpot for the next Powerball draw will go back to basics and be worth an estimated $20 million for the draw that will take place on Saturday 5th November.
