PlayTech are a big name in the world of online gaming providing software for many online casinos, bingo and poker sites. Yesterday PlayTech secured World Lottery Association membership as an Associate Member. The World Lottery Association (WLA) has a mission, to ‘advance the interests of State authorised lotteries’ and members of the World Lottery Association are required to stick to strict standards including responsible gaming and security.
Now that PlayTech have secured World Lottery Association membership it only goes to enhance their name in the online gaming industry as a provider of platforms for State and privately owned lottery operators around the world.
To become a member of the WLA applications have to meet strict criteria; these include:
- Licensed or authorised to undertake sports betting / lottery operations in a jurisdiction that is recognised by the UN
- The majority of an applicant’s revenue must be generated by the sale of games of skill and/or chance
- All business practices of the applicant must adhere to the World Lottery Association’s objectives and aims
- The major part of the applicant’s revenue must be driven toward the public good
Membership fees to the World Lottery Association are dictated by the total amount of Gross Sales and applicant generates and varies from CHF 4,900 to CHF 21,000 dependant on the sales generated annually.
Could we soon see other major gaming players in the world of online gaming be granted membership of some form or other to the World Lottery Association? It is probably very likely.
