Oz Lotto hits 50 million

We’ve been following it for a couple of weeks now on our lottery news pages but today the Oz Lotto hit A$50 million as no lottery players matched all seven winning lottery numbers in the popular Australian lottery. The A$40 million jackpot from last Tuesday now rolls over again to this huge milestone for next week. Sales on lottery tickets for the weekly lottery are likely to soar this week as lottery fever sweeps Australia as players vie to by the next big lottery winner.
The Oz Lotto was the first and original Australian Lottery, launched in February 1994 the lottery originally drew six balls from a possible 45 but that was changed in 2005 when an extra ball was added, requiring players to match seven from 45 balls.
Of course this means that odds of winning the Oz Lotto are significantly longer than other world lottery draws, with odds set at around one in 45 million, so rollovers are common, although not quite to this magnitude.
Oz Lotteries has also recently set up the Lotto Points system where players earn loyalty points every time they buy lotto tickets online, we’re guessing that lots of Oz Lotto players will be racking up a fair few Lotto Points this week as they try to choose the lottery numbers that are the ticket to a major life change.
More news about the Oz Lotto next week and hopefully news of the winner, if it rolls again we could start to see the jackpot edge towards the current record of A$106.5 million, shared by two lottery players almost exactly a year ago.
