New Jersey do the Double

Money There’s an interesting rumour going round the lottery world that New Jersey might just become the first American state to participate in two multi-state lotteries. Traditional across the American states says that a state chooses either the Mega Millions or Powerball Lottery to be played within their states but might New Jersey do the double and offer both?

New Jersey have this week put forward proposals to become the very first US state to participate in both the Powerball Lottery and Mega Millions Lottery in a move that could see an extra $10 million a year in funding for the state.

Players in New Jersey can currently only play in the Mega Millions Lottery – a fact brought home by the $212 million syndicate winners last week – but these proposals could also see them becoming the 31st US state to join the Powerball Lottery too.

It would mean double the chances to play and win for lottery players in the state of New Jersey and would also raise a huge amount for the local economy. Lottery funding already generates around $860 million a year in New Jersey with the cash going towards education projects, senior programmes and institutions throughout the state. Lottery sales are generating around $66 million every month, despite the economic downturn and the lotteries and the fourth largest revenue producers in New Jersey.

Although traditional each US state chooses one lottery or the other, the state of New Jersey will be the first to consider both and will be the first state to offer play on both the Mega Millions Lottery and the Powerball Lottery if these proposals go ahead.
