It’s a big Happy Birthday this week as the UK National Lottery celebrates its 14th birthday. There has been lots of millionaires made along the way but that’s not the only way that the National Lottery has changed peoples’ lives for the better across the UK.
Every single week the National Lottery donates £25 million to good causes helping to change the lives of communities across the UK. That means that since its launch in 1994 the UK National Lottery has raised a staggering £22 billion for good causes.

No cause is too big or small, more than half of National Lottery grants given out to date have been for less than £5,000 and that small amount of cash makes a huge difference to people across the UK. From improving conditions to local cinemas to donations for libraries and museums a small amount of cash can make a huge difference to community projects.
Other projects to benefit from National Lottery grants have been community centres, sports teams and Park restoration projects.
And let’s not forget the part the National Lottery played in helping our athletes in Beijing, donating huge amounts of money to the sports council improving training grounds and providing essential apparatus allowing athletes to get the training they needed.
It doesn’t end there of course with National Lottery funding making up a huge amount of the cash going towards the 2012 Olympics to be held here in the UK.
So next time you buy a National Lottery ticket and hope it could be you, it’s well worth remembering that you and others are benefitting from National Lottery cash every day.
