Lee Kost should have been known as one of the luckiest men alive after he scooped $250,000 on the Mega Millions game in Ohio. Since the win back in September 2007 he has been burgled again and again although Police aren’t saying if the crimes are related to his win. Mr Kost who owned two Jaguars and a Rolex watch and a healthy bank balance was left dead of a gunshot wound after the final intrusion.
The first robbery took place early this year with further intrusions taking place on March 11th and then again on April 27th. Each burglary saw cash stolen totalling $2800 in all, credit cards, diamond rings, a sapphire ring, the Rolex watch and his collection of small change which contained about $500. Entry to the property was gained through an unlocked door on the first two occasions but the third saw the criminal reaching through the letter box to unlock the door.
Four people, three of which are just 18, have been charged with aggravated robbery and murder and have had bonds set at $2 million each after their court appearance on Monday.
Terence Maya, 26, Antonio Taylor, Porche Sweet and Megan Harper were all apprehended after police stopped them in one of the victims Jaguars 35 miles from the crime scene. They were stopped because the car was speeding and moving “erratically” according to the arresting officer.
An active member of the community Kost’s wealth may have attracted the unwanted attention of the criminals but the report goes onto say that Mr Kost actually had dinner with one of the group on the evening he was killed. Mr Kost was a retired stockbroker who was 78 years old.
The preliminary hearing for the four defendants takes place on Tuesday 21st May 2008.
