Mega Millions Jackpot remains unclaimed
5th September 2008 12:35 AM
On Friday 29th August a Mega Million draw took place for a staggering amount of money being won, $133 million to be precise. Two days on and the Mega Millions Jackpot remains unclaimed and the winner has 180 days from the draw date to contact the Georgia Lottery and stake their claim to this massive amount of money.
If this Mega Millions Jackpot remains unclaimed after those 180 days then this lucky winner will definitely be kicking themselves rather hard in the shins. It isn’t uncommon for any lottery winner to wait a few days to claim their prize though and I can only imagine that this Mega Millions winner is still coming to terms with the fact they have won such a huge amount of money.
The winning Mega Millions ticket was purchased in a Chevron station in a place called Mableton in South Cobb County.
Although the Mega Millions jackpot remains unclaimed at the moment when this lucky winner does step forward to make his / her claim they will have a choice to make. They can chose to take annual payments which will mean that eventually they will have taken home the full $133 million or they can take an immediate payment which, after state and federal taxes, will net them $57 million.
If after the 180 days this Mega Millions Jackpot remains unclaimed then each state who took part in the Mega Millions game will be reimbursed all the money that each individual state contributed to that Mega Millions jackpot. Every state then uses any unclaimed Mega Millions prizes for varying purposes.
