The last US Mega Millions jackpot was won on Friday 4th April by one lucky player who purchased their ticket in California. While this winner’s US$30 million prize remains unclaimed, an earlier Mega Millions jackpot winner chose last Thursday to step forward and collect their big prize.
48-year-old Cameron Finney won the US$20 million jackpot in the US Mega Millions draw held on 25th March when he was the only player to match all five main numbers plus the Mega Ball correctly. Finney, a hospital porter from New York, said he was so nervous about losing the ticket he slept with it for two days before putting it in a bank safety deposit box.
Arriving at the New York State Lottery’s Plainview office on 15th May, Cameron Finney was joined by his wife Donna who said Cameron had been waking up in the middle of the night saying ‘I’m not going to change’. Cameron confirmed that this was one of his biggest worries after reading stories of lottery winners who had wasted their millions in a short space of time, only to be left penniless. “I kept telling people that’s not going to be my story,” Finney said in a press conference. “It’s going to last until I’m gone.”
While Finney has adopted a sensible attitude towards his win, he still has big plans in the pipeline including a new house, a Dodge Ram and a significant donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, among other charities.
If you’d like to be able to follow in Finney’s philanthropic footsteps, you can take a chance in tonight’s Mega Millions game by purchasing tickets online through the Lottery Tickets tab or in person from an authorised retailer.
