Man wins Lottery and dies

Australian LotteryIn an odd story to hit our desks this morning, a lottery player from Sydney has created a huge legal skirmish, after the man wins the lottery and dies. The death, so soon after the $1.8 million Australian Lottery win means the gentleman’s children are now fighting over the huge amount of cash. You may have heard the saying “where there’s a will, there’s a relative” well there were certainly lots of interested relatives when details of this win were released.

It’s amazing how money can bring out the worst in us, and it certainly seems to have had this effect over this lottery ticket. The story doesn’t give much thought to the unlucky gentleman, Alexander Frank Szanto, who won the Australian Lottery and died, and seems to give all the limelight to his greedy children who have been fighting over the win since the lottery ticket was discovered.

On of the gentleman’s daughters lives in the house where the lottery ticket was found, but now a court has decided that the winnings should be split equally between all the gentleman’s children. However, that’s not the end of it, as the winner’s son has now come forward and claimed he bought the lottery ticket to share with his father, and is now claiming half.

It’s quite astounding how quickly people will fight over money. Leaving us wondering in this case if anyone but the lawyer’s will be getting rich. Bad luck to the gentleman who won the lottery and then died, maybe it’s a good job he’s not here to see the mess that has been left behind.
