We regularly bring you news of the latest lottery scams and as Police confirm that a man loses his house in lottery scam we can only reiterate how careful you must be not to fall victim to one of the many lottery scams out there. Dumfries and Galloway police are appealing to the public to be aware of the danger of bogus letters and emails that are being sent out to people telling them they have won significant amounts of money on the lottery.
Two people in the region have recently lost significant amounts of money in these postal lottery scams and one of them, an elderly gentleman from South West Scotland has actually lost his home in one of these foreign lottery scams.
The issue has been past to the Fraud and Financial investigations unit who have issued warnings to the public to never give out their bank details to anyone telling them they have won a significant amount of money on the lottery.
If you receive anything through the post or by email telling you that you have won a significant amount of money on the lottery then you need to use common sense. No Lottery in the world would ever ask you for cash to release winnings from a lottery.
Also bear in mind if you have played any world lottery draws, if you haven’t bought tickets for a lottery draw then there is no chance at all you could have won a prize.
These lottery scams come from all around the world and that in itself makes them particularly hard to investigate, you really do need to think carefully if you receive one of these emails or letters and the best advice we can give you is to ignore it.
