Lotto New Roof for Churches

lottery fundingRaising money for a new church roof has to be without a doubt one of the biggest church fundraisers in history, it’s so clichéd there is even jokes dedicated to the subject but now the National Lottery has stepped in with £1.8 million which is a Lotto new roof for churches in Greater Manchester as they celebrate a National Lottery grant.

The grants are being issued by the Heritage Lottery Fund and total more than £1.8 million of Natinal Lottery money, money which will be used on vital repairs to twelve Grade II listed buildings used by a broad range of faiths.

One of these, the Greek Orthodox Church in Salford will receive £100,000 to repair their roof and stonework, the church was built in 1960 and although fundraisers had already raised £50,000, the work just would not have been possible without the National Lottery grant. Work on this church will begin in October and should be completed by spring 2010.

The grants are part of a £7 million package of funded awarded to a total of 56 churches across England as part of the repair grants for places of worship scheme, the biggest single funding source for work of this kind.

In addition to repairing these important historical buildings that are right in the heart of community life, the project will also create 175 jobs, just in this area alone, helping the local community in more ways than one.

Many churches will benefit from this scheme, all made possible by you buying tickets for the UK National Lottery and helping good causes at the same time as attempting to be the next lottery millionaire.
