Lottery Winners Daughter Fights for Cash

A National Lottery winners daughters fight for cash is finally over after Camelot-the National Lottery organisers- agreed to pay her dead mothers winnings to her. Valerie Ward, 61 from Darlington Co Durham sadly died of cancer just hours before the main National Lottery draw in October, being an online lottery player and buying her tickets well in advance she still had two weeks of tickets playing at the time of her death in October 2008.
Mrs Wards’ daughter Tracy, 31 was then told she must pay for an administration letter to claim her mothers’ prize. Her mother matched five numbers in the October draw winning £1,500. Camelot have now agreed to pay this amount without quibble and had apologised for the distress caused by the situation.

Valerie Ward had been playing the National Lottery online for a while, and having non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma found playing online a quick and easy way to still participate in the National Lottery even while she was in hospital and undergoing treatment.
A Camelot spokesman said that unfortunately if a player dies before they are able to claim then a letter of administration must be submitted under their game rules. Given the unusual circumstances of the case Camelot have waivered the usual procedure and sent a cheque for the winnings to Mrs Ward’s daughter.
We’d like to say well done to the National Lottery for paying up promptly and resolving this matter without causing further distress to Mrs Wards’ family.
