Lottery Winner Gives Fortune to Charity

Sam Weekes is 88 years old, a war veteran and now Chelsea pensioner. He’s also won £77,777 on a National Lottery scratchcard, you’d think he’d be ecstatic but this Lottery Winner gives the fortune to charity keeping just £777 for himself.

Mr Weekes says he’s so content in his life that he has given £77,000 of his fortune away to a hospice and other charities keeping £777 to indulge his favourite pastimes-betting on the horses, playing the lottery, Guinness and his favourite nightcap, whiskey and ginger.

The gentleman, a former sergeant major in the Royal Sussex Regiment won the amount last year but resisted Camelot’s wish to publicise the win, he kept the win a secret from even his three daughters after making the decision to pledge the bulk of it to charity.

Mr Weekes says he didn’t really feel elated when he realised her had won the cash as he didn’t really need the money but enjoyed playing scratchcards as a hobby. The gentleman lives at the Royal Hospital Chelsea and is one of 300 retired servicemen to live there. Although he had to forfeit his army pension to live at the hospital he believes his state pension is more than enough for him to live on.

What a lovely story and a truly generous gentleman, a dying breed I fear. We salute you Sam Weekes.

A huge selection of National Lottery scratchcards are available to buy at Lottery kiosks across the country or for convenience you can play them online at the National Lottery website.
