Lotto Winner Gives Away her Millions

In June the biggest ever New Zealand Lotto Big Wednesday jackpot was up for grabs at a staggering $36.9 million. But the Masterton woman who shared it has been an unusual decision as the lottery winner gives away her millions by setting up a charitable trust that will ensure that people who need it get it, even when she is not around any more.
The 72 year old, known only as Margaret won $9 million on the lottery as part of a syndicate with her two daughters and granddaughter, she has redecorated her home but has no other plans for any other luxuries for herself.
The news is that she says she has had a lot out of life and now wants to give something back, she doesn’t need the money at her age and intends to give most of it to charity.
Her daughter, who also won $9 million says the charitable plans will be her mum’s legacy, she has set up a charitable trust that will continue to roll on year after year, even after her mum has gone, giving to charities of her mothers choice.
Margaret has kept enough to live on and has given the rest away, with a focus on health-related charities. All family members who were in the lottery syndicate had received begging letters but they felt that donating through a charitable trust would be the best way to go.
The trust will probably be called the Shamrock Trust in honour of Margaret’s late husband who was an Irishman from County Longford.
A very grand gesture I’m sure you’ll agree, making Margaret one of the biggest world lottery philanthropists ever!
