Lottery Winner Caught Growing Cannabis

lotteryYou would think that after winning more than a million on the lottery that staying away from a life of crime wouldn’t be too difficult but for one UK National Lottery winner caught growing cannabis he is now going to have to pay back his life of crime.

Richard Storey, 52 is a property developer and after winning £1.25 million on the UK National Lottery in 1999 his life really should have gone from strength to strength but it seemed the lottery and being rich was not to be lucky for him as he was plagued by misfortune.

Mr Storey had gone bust and lost everything when he quit work to care for his sick wife and began growing cannabis as a way to make money. He was arrested in his home in Essex after a raid last September and the police seized the cannabis plants that are said to have earned him £30,000 a year.

Now a judge at Basildon Crown Court has ordered the lottery winner to pay back £100,000 of the proceeds of Crime Act and Mr Storey will have to find some way to pay back the cash.

The gentleman lives in a £700,000 home, purchased with his UK National Lottery winnings so raising the money shouldn’t be too difficult and the police seem pretty happy that a job has been well done.

Lottery winners who invest wisely shouldn’t find themselves in this sort of situation and I guess that even £1 million won’t last forever if you aren’t careful.
