Lottery Scratch Card for Commonwealth Games

The Scottish Government has put forward a proposal for a National Lottery scratch card for the Commonwealth games in 2014. The games which are to be held in Glasgow are desperately in need of funding and the government believe that a National Lottery scratch card might be just the way forward to raise some much needed cash.
The Minister for Public Health and Sport of the Scottish government, Shona Robinson has also announced that she has written to her UK counterpart to request the return of £150 million of lottery funding diverted away from Scotland to pay for the 2012 Olympic games.

A meeting between the ministers is expected later this month to discuss the funding proposals. The Glasgow 2014 games are expected to cost around £300 million and Ms Robinson is quoted as saying that long after the last medal has been awarded the funding for the games will encourage and inspire everyone to live healthier lives in the area.
There is no doubt that dedicated National Lottery games and scratch cards have secured a great deal of funding for the 2012 Olympic games to be held in London and it’s of little wonder why the Scottish government want a slice of the action. Specialist games like scratch cards are a great way of raising money without taking cash from other designated lottery funds.
The National Lottery has been given the task of raising £750 million for the London 2012 Olympics through lottery sales, scratch cards and internet games and with almost £400 million collected already – one fifth of which would otherwise of been dedicated to projects north of the border – these proposals should come as no surprise.
Whatever the outcome it’s great to know that a slice of what we spend on lottery tickets is going to some great causes for Scotland and the rest of the UK and keeping us buying our tickets week after week.
The next National Lottery draw will be held on Wednesday and you can play that, plus play a whole host of instant wins by clicking our link above and going to the National Lottery website.
