Retailers are furious with new lottery restrictions for the Canada Lotto 6/49 and other lotteries fun by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. The restrictions - coming into place in a couple of months - mean that shopkeepers who offer the lottery in store will no longer be able to spend their days playing the games as they are going to have to travel to another store to buy tickets.
The OLG – who run the Canada Lotto 6/49 have put the measures in place to prevent fraud and the restrictions to the Canada Lotto 6/49 will mean that retailers will no longer be able to buy lottery tickets in their own store leaving many tenders angry.
The government has for a while now been making it increasingly difficult for retailers to play the Canada Lotto 6/49 and other lotteries run by the OLG. This is after several cases of insider fraud in 2007 and an internal audit with showed that there had been over $198 million cashed in from 50,000 winning tickets over the last 13 years.
The audit found that lottery insiders make up 3.4 % of total prizes but shopkeepers say that this isn’t caused by fraud but simply because they have far more opportunities to play.
The new rules come into place on November 3rd 2009 and will mean that if lottery retailers wish to play the lottery, they will have to go to another store to do so.
It’s part of an overall scheme to tighten up rules in the OLG after it was revealed that the lottery has been subjected to many frauds.
