Lottery Player Collects Four Years Late

Ontario is in shock today as a lottery player collects four years late after winning the Canada Lotto 6/49. The lady wasn’t even aware that she had won the second division lottery prize in 2004 and only found out after lottery officials contacted her to say she had won. It’s a wonderful story made all the better by the fact that if she came from any other country she would have probably lost out on her prize.
Jamie Antinori from Burlington near Toronto wasn’t even aware that she had won the second division prize in the Canada Lotto 6/49 draw. The ticket was for the draw held right back on November 27th 2004 and at the time was worth $80,341 although she will now be receiving accrued interest on the win too.

Ontario Lottery officials were conducting an investigation into a fraudulent claim when they realised that this lucky lady had won the Lotto 6/49 prize four years ago, the details of the fraud are not reported although it has been said that a lottery retailer has been charged with fraud. The investigations did result in the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation tracking down this lady and her receiving her winnings.
After not even knowing about her win Ms Antinori is understandable incredibly grateful to the investigators who spent a lot of time and effort finding her and she has expressed her delight at receiving the money adding that she will be paying off some debts and treating herself and her family with the proceeds.
In addition to the win, the lucky lady will also receive her fours year’s accrued interest on the prize pushing the amount to over $94,000.
It’s a heart-warming story although it does highlight the need to check tickets, especially in countries where there is a time limit on lottery wins.
