Lottery Grant for Welsh Landmarks

Wales is celebrating today after nine historic buildings have been awarded almost £400,000 to help fund vital repairs, the lottery grants for Welsh landmarks couldn’t have come at a better time and the total of £358,247 will go a long way to keeping these buildings in the Welsh heritage for some time yet.
The grants from the National Lottery heritage fund range from £7,500 to £100,000 and will mean a lot to local communities as their landmarks get the much needed regeneration they deserve. The grade II listed former British Steel offices at Ebbw Vale were awarded the largest grant and they will be receiving £100,000.

£75,000 is also to be awarded to develop land around Foley House another grade II listed building in Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire.
Unfortunately not everyone was happy with the awards though, with friends of the Newport Transporter bridge said to be hugely disappointed with the £75,000 grant the project has been awarded. The bridge faces a £2 million repair bill and unfortunately the grant will not even go a small way to funding the repairs needed.
The bridge, which celebrated its centenary in 2006 has been shut since last December after failings made it unsafe.
However even the £75,000 will go some small way to making a difference and the people of Wales should be celebrating today after seeing Lottery money go towards making local landmarks accessible to future generations of Wales.
This is just one way the UK National Lottery is putting money back into good causes across the UK through the National Lottery heritage fund. A huge proportion of lottery profits are put into good causes and it’s just another reason why we should all keep buying those lottery tickets every week.
