Lottery good causes changes ahead

UK National LotteryIt was just a few days ago that we at World Lottery were asking ‘will the lottery get all Conservative?’ Now that we have a new government and we are hearing talk of the first effects of possible changes on the way that money from the UK National Lottery for charitable organisations is spent, what will happen? There are lottery good causes changes ahead if todays press is to be believed. Make of them what you will and keep looking out for more changes in the way that UK National Lottery money is spent.

Reports state that the new coalition government have demanded that distributors of lottery money from the UK National Lottery cut their overheads dramatically. However experts believe that these changes could “fundamentally change” the way the Big Lottery Fund works in the UK and that could mean that many smaller causes lose out, due to administrative costs being higher, relatively for smaller donations.

At least 8% of money distributed by the Big Lottery Fund is spend on administration costs and our new coalition government wants to see that brought down to around 5%. However the move will mean a complete overhaul in the way that the Big Lottery Fund, who distribute UK National Lottery funds for good causes runs in the UK.

Experts believe this goal for the lottery fund administration costs could end up meaning that the Big Lottery Fund doesn’t pay out as many smaller donations and smaller charities around the UK could miss out on vital lottery funding.

This is, without a doubt, just the first of the changes that the new government will play in the future of the UK National Lottery and with new owners of the Lotto getting settled in now, we could see even more changes ahead for the UK's Lottery.
