We’re all tightening our belts and being more careful with our money but it seems for many of us, a big lottery win is the only way out of the mess. Maybe that’s why the UK National Lottery flies high during credit crunch with Camelot reporting a record year for lottery sales. Customers have spend a massive £5.1 billion on National Lottery tickets in the past 12 months, despite the country being in recession.
It’s great news of course because it means that over £1 billion has been earmarked for good causes by the National Lottery commission in the past 12 months, another record for the lottery. That’s not the only way that the increased National Lottery sales is helping the country either. With ticket sales being taxable, the UK National Lottery has also raised over £600 million in taxes, all going into the government coffers, helping the country dig its way out of their part of the global financial crisis.

It’s thought that the increase has been helped along by big Euromillions jackpots too, there’s been two super draws already this year and of course big jackpots mean more players. It’s all good news and of course that’s not counting the scores of millionaires that have been created in Britain by both the UK National Lottery and the Euromillions Lottery.
So next time you’re purchasing your National Lottery or Euromillions Lottery tickets, it’s worth remembering that you really are doing good for the country you live in. Here’s to another record year for Camelot and the lottery.
