Life Unchanged by Lottery Win

I think we all dream of that big lottery win that would enable us to retire early and live the life of luxury, but how much would you actually need to win by today’s standards for it to have a huge change on your life. Well one US lady says her life is unchanged by a lottery win worth $1 million, it poses an interesting question on just how much money is worth and how much each of us need to get by comfortably in the world today.
Julie Nolan of Minnesota scooped $1 million on the state lottery a year ago, after taxes she received around $677,000 and says that although the win was obviously welcome, her life has actually been unchanged.
She did the usual things of treating her kids, renovated her house and took the whole family on holiday yet she still commutes to the job she’s held for the last 13 years and she still drives a rusty old Chevy with 220,000 miles on the clock.
Clearly $600,000 isn’t enough to retire on today so how much would you need to win on the lottery for it to be a life-changing event?
Well the Powerball Lottery goes off tonight and the multi-rollover jackpot is worth a staggering $70 million, I guess if you scooped that one for yourself then even after the taxes that American Lotteries take from wins you would still have a fair bit left and be able to live a life of luxury.
Yet interestingly one in five lottery winners keep their job, no matter how much they win so maybe no amount of money is enough for some people to change the habit of a lifetime.
