Islanders Ferry Trip to Buy Lotto Tickets

lottery-ticketsThe Island of Barra is a pretty remote part of the UK and that means that buying essentials can often be difficult for islanders. Luckily they have a local post office and shop which has served the local population well for the last thirty years but as announced today the islands shop and post office will close temporarily in August after the post master resigned leaving the islanders a ferry trip to buy lotto tickets and supplies.

The shop was established thirty years ago by islanders in 1981 and has served the island from the main village of Castlebay well. In addition to a post office, the shop sells books gifts, pain, car accessories, toiletries and of course UK National Lottery tickets but from August will close its doors temporarily leaving Islanders facing a trip to Oban on a ferry to buy tickets for the weekly draws.

The close is coming about due to the resignation of the sub postmaster and despite the Post Office LTD attempting to find a replacement they say they have no other option but to close this branch temporarily on 31st August 2009. They still maintain that the provision of post offices in the local community is of paramount importance and vow to work hard to restore service to the area as soon as possible.

Now we at world lottery don’t know how good the internet service is on Barra but if it is possible we would suggest that the islanders click the link above and purchasing their UK National Lottery tickets online. It would certainly be more convenient than getting a ferry to the mainland and thanks to the National Lottery technology they could purchase for up to eight weeks in advance. In fact as the island only has 100 habitants maybe they could get a lottery syndicate together!
