The player, who matched all six main numbers in one of Irish Lotto’s supplementary games on Saturday 4th June, took 86 days to come forward and claim his prize, just four days before it would have expired. If winners do not make contact with the Irish Lottery before the end of the 90th day following the draw, their prize is forfeited and used to help promote the lottery and raise money for good causes in Ireland.
Explaining his relaxed attitude towards coming forward, the anonymous ticket holder recalled, "we stopped off in the shop to buy some ice creams so I decided to do the Lotto. I was back in the shop a couple of days later and everybody was talking about the big win. I got the biggest shiver down my spine and without even looking at the numbers, I knew it had to be me. I finally decided to check my numbers on a ticket scanner last week as I knew the deadline was approaching. On Friday, I noticed that the National Lottery were appealing for the winner to contact them so I said I better go up to Dublin and claim it before the deadline."
The man referred to the win as a “game changer” for his family and described how he envisages the moment he shares his fantastic news, saying “my plan is to buy a lovely new family home for us and I will give them all the surprise of their lives when I tell them that it’s ours!"
The news comes just days after a Kilkenny woman nearly missed out on a six-figure win after carrying an unchecked Irish Lotto ticket around in her handbag for a fortnight.
