Illinois Player Wins $393 Million Mega Millions Jackpot

A player from Illinois grabbed the fifth largest Mega Millions jackpot in history on Friday night as they matched all the numbers drawn to win an astonishing $393 million. The result ended a long streak of rollovers dating back to 28th April, when David Trapp purchased a ticket in Laguna Hills, California and picked up $61 million.

The winning numbers for Friday’s game were 23, 33, 53, 56 and 58, with Mega Ball 6. The lucky ticket was sold at Nick’s Barbecue in Palos Heights, which would not have have been possible a little over a month ago as Illinois temporarily had to suspend sales of Mega Millions. Ticket sales quickly resumed after a budget agreement was reached and it came just in time for lottery players in the state as the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots grew to record-breaking levels.

The latest Mega Millions win is the fourth jackpot success of the year, and the biggest since a family from Hamilton County in Indiana won $536 million on 8th July 2016. The winner now has one year to come forward and claim their prize, and can decide whether to take the full jackpot amount in annual instalments over 29 years or the cash option of around $246 million.

There were over 5 million other winners in Friday’s Mega Millions draw, with the Megaplier of 5 boosting payouts across the country. Take a look at the World Lottery Results page for more information about all the winning numbers.

The jackpot for the next draw will be $15 million, while the top prize in Powerball stands at an impressive $430 million ahead of Wednesday night’s game. Fans of both lotteries can buy tickets from authorised retailers in participating states or choose numbers online.
