Yanish, who earns a steady living as a farrier, bought his winning ticket at Casey’s General Store in St. Cloud after deciding to make a late ‘“impulse purchase”. Speaking at a press conference at Minnesota Lottery Headquarters in Roseville, he revealed how it really was a very late decision: "I just had an extra couple of bucks and decided to buy two tickets at the last minute." The lucky ticket matched 13, 27, 47, 64 and 65 to secure the seven-figure prize, with just the Powerball, 9, standing in the way of the Minnesotan and the jackpot of $50 million.
The lucky Minnesota Powerball winner stumbled across the fantastic news after reading that a $1 million ticket had been sold in the very store he had frequented just days earlier. The 33-year-old also spoke of how his wife feared the worst when news emerged of the Powerball win: “I was freaking out,” Yanish recalled. "My wife thought someone had died!" After becoming the North Star State’s third recipient of a $1 million Powerball prize this year, Yanish and his wife now plan to pay off their outstanding debts, including the mortgage on their house, before travelling and tithing a portion of their sizeable windfall.
The Powerball jackpot is currently estimated to be worth an incredible $123 million ahead of this Wednesday evening's draw. The top prize has grown massively since a family syndicate of eight players from New Jersey claimed a colossal $429.6 million on the 7th of May. If you’d like to be in with a chance of claiming this incredible sum, tickets are available to buy online or from any authorised retailer in participating states. Best of luck and keep those fingers crossed!
